In September I rode 107 miles. At the end of the month I did the Falling Leaves Bike Ride in Bristol, IN. I did the 25k version which was 15 miles. In October I have a couple of longer rides coming up hopefully the weather holds up so that these can be completed, looking forward to it!!!

100 in August

ride188Image by Brian_Brooks via Flickr

I have ridden my by bike 100.3 miles in August! Ok, ok I know that some people ride their bikes 100 miles in a single day, and, well, good for them. In my case you have to start from where you are at. When I was a kid I was always on my bike riding. Then I began driving, and when I went to college I started gaining weight. I have now been over weight and out of shape for several years. This is where I was at a month ago when God started prompting me to do something about it. So as you know from a previous post I began riding my bike to work. Somewhere in the middle of August I was looking at my miles and decided I would like to have at least 100 miles by the end of the month. Actually I thought I would be well past that mark, but a last minute business trip and weather put me right until the last day to achieve the century mark. Our pastor is always saying that you have to point your feet in the direction that you want to go. Well at this point I am pointing my bike in the direction I want to go. I may not be leading a peloton any time soon, but I will be getting closer to where I want to go. Achieving a healthy body, one pedal at a time, one mile at a time.

Elkhart to Chicago

Chicago is just a short trip from Elkhart. It is so nice to have a big city close by.

I love the big city. It is so different from where I grew up. There is something about being there that takes you away from reality. It is almost overwhelming. The tall buildings, the amount of people, cars, and subways! Chicago has many choices for music and food that we don't have around here.

Beginning Bicycling 101

Cycling through London FieldsImage by Tom T via Flickr

Today I rode my bike into work. From my starting point to work is 7.25 miles. This also means I have to ride it back home. This may not seem like a big deal to a lot of you, but I am a large guy and not at all in shape. This is something I would like to do more often, hopefully twice a week or more. Last year I lost a lot of weight, but there is plenty more to lose. Getting healthy physically is an important priority for me, as I want to be able to do things with my family without "out of shape" issues causing problems. On the sidebar there is now a tracker for the miles I have ridden. Hopefully you all will hold me accountable and keep me on track. I know that right now I am not going to shatter any biking miles records, but every little bit helps. Also I am hoping that I can soon enter some organized rides. Jami is also biking with me. This is something I am enjoying very much. If you more experienced riders have some tips or suggestions, please feel free to leave me those in the comments.
